Putting a pounding on them

Postby QuackHonkBang » Fri Dec 06, 2013 12:00 pm

Waters are wide open. Talked to Green Lake and Horicon hunters tonight and plenty of open water there, but closing quickly. Canadas are stacking up around there. Ducks are headed South flying high.

lots of mallards and geese showed up to the river on pool 16 Thursday, If you were in calm water they were very workable. Today less mallards still a lot of geese and several groups of goldeneyes flying down river, a few stopped but most were flying down river rafting up in the main channel. Expecting ice soon.

My guys back home in So. Il. have been doing quite well with this weather. I'm practically drooling over the stories of the hunts they're having.

I'm gonna hunt every single day left of season as soon as I finish my last final at Quincy U on Tuesday. Hopefully the ducks aren't gone by then!

Limited out again with mallards and geese 12/6 afternoon. Birds were all over. Retention ponds were open while going out to hunt. They were freezing over while heading home. I'm sure there froze over this morning. Couldn't hunt this morning due to being on shift. Good luck out there guys!!

No doubt Mallards are here this past week. There are two other day's pictures I don't have, which was another limit and other two Mallards shy. Image

 broke through 2-3 inches of ice this morning and will be officially froze out tomorrow. Hunted pool 16 and we got skunked today. Looked like blind 156 was still somewhat open this morning and only shooting we heard. They had 20 mallards fall right in and we were stumped on why there wasn't any shooting, then about 15 got up and 30 seconds later about 8 shots. In total heard a whole 15 shots all day 645-1230. The birds that were here Thursday hit the road.

Killer, you are killing me with the goose pictures. Haven't had much of an opportunity to kill them down here in recent years. I miss the geese so much. We now have a foot of snow down here, I sure didn't see any birds today.

Everyday was a team effort. Can't complain. We were on birds this week. Couldn't even give you numbers. I can't remember which day is which. Canadas still aren't even here yet. Numbers are getting better but mass migration isn't here.

Hard hunting today. Sunrise-sunset and only a Canada to speak of it. 3/4 mile away from birds stacked so we walked that field after lunch for all them to return to the same field an hour later. Everything that came in was finishing and busted us playing frisbee. Whiteout the last hour. Back at it tomorrow.
