No Rice!

Postby TonkaDuk » Sun Mar 04, 2012 5:40 am

Just heard from landowner, due to low cost of rice next years fields will be planted in corn and peanuts. I know corn has been pretty good in field along Illinois river if done right. I have always hunted rice. Any thoughts?

I love field hunting ducks in corn. Are you talking about a dry field or will you flood it? Either way, corn is king in central MO, teh ducks love it. I've found they don't start hitting it REAL hard until it gets pretty cold and they need that fuel. We kill em more in the moist soil places in early season and hit the corn later.

I think a rice field is similar too a wheat field, after harvest. NY ducks will choose corn over wheat everytime. Agree......... "Corn is King".

corn is the way to go. whether it's a dry field, a flat field that's flooded, or a rolling field with pockets of water you will have birds usin it!
Every day I try to be the person my dog thinks I am. If I have accomplished this when my time comes, I feel I will have had a pretty good life.
