What shell and choke for field ducks??

Postby Goose Getter » Mon Jul 16, 2012 7:06 pm

I've only field hunted geese and was wondering if you guys help with a shot size and choke recommendation for field ducks. I normally shoot 2's for ducks over water through a Briley extended mod choke, is there and reason to change that combo? We're gonna have a decent spread with 8-10 Mojos, if that helps.

This year #2 Heavy Metal 3.5 inch with IMP or Modified depending on which gun I grabbed. Been working well for sure on geese early season and then on the ducks this weekend

What shell and choke for field ducks??

Postby Gizzle86 » Wed Sep 26, 2012 8:26 pm

All I hunt is fields and been that way for yrs. I recently swapped to hevi metal ext choke mid range and 3" #5s and 6s for teal (1350fps) and 3" #3s for ducks and geese(1550fps) all kent fast steel ill never shoot another shell ever. They burn 96% of the powder and I put 147/170 bbs on a 28" long by 24" tall poster board with 36 pellets within 1.25" in all directions of the spot I aimed! That teamed with the new choke it deadly up to 50-60 yds if needed.

Old thread I know.. But i'll bring it back to life. I as well as others above LOVE shooting hevi metal. I normally shoot 3" bb's just so I don't have to switch around when hunting honkers or could get at both. With that said, if I was only shooting ducks i would go with hevi metal 3" 3's
