what ducks have you shot in fields?

Postby Bob Caygeon » Sun Nov 04, 2012 5:36 pm

I have killed mallards, blacks, and wood ducks. I have seen pintails mixed with mallards but never shot one. I think I seen a wigeon yesterday but im not sure. So I would like to know what kind of ducks you have shot in fields. I also seen a teal once but it got lost in the mix and got away.

Mallards, wood ducks, pintail, wigeon, and green wing teal so far this year from fields. Could have pass shot ringnecks and readheads one day but we had geese coming.

Tapatalkin on my Droid while I should be working.

Around Dundee miss. it's mallards, greenwing teal, gadwalls, pintails, spoonies....with the occasional wigeon. Only killed 2 woodies in a field.
Rarely ever even see a Blackduck. A guy killed 2 lost Canvasbacks early in the season a couple years ago. Forgot, killed 2 ringers one morning.

Mostly mallards, few blacks, few green wings depending on where I"m hunting. Shot a handful of pintails. My buddies shot woodies on land as well.

For the guys that shoot Pintail, do you use a whistle or a call? Do you have Pintail decoys? Every Pintail I have seen circles at 50 yards then flies away even if the mallards they are with decoy.

Pintail decoys are great to use. The big white chests are seen from a long ways away. I usually have luck just using a mallard call.

I will have to try a few fullbody pintails. I am seeing more and more the last two years. Never seen enough in the past to worry about it. Thanks for the reply.
