Blind thought for open flooded fields?

Postby mswings » Mon Jan 28, 2013 5:14 pm

My duck club has 6500 acres open flooded fields. The ducks always land in middle. The fields stay at about 12"- 16" deep.

My thoughts were to take a 14' John boat I have and put a Avery blind on it camo it up. Put all our gear in it and walk it out there set out decoys and stuff the get it and hunt...

Do you guys think that would work, I can take it to any field and use it!

Ideally I would petition the club to start building some pits!

We have multiple pits but they were placed in the spots they are due to farming so they are in the wrong spots, but will not be moved so they won't get in the way of year round farming. Buying new pits or moving the ones there won't happen! When placed out there hey were always tore up my farming operation.

Just trying to think of something easy and removable, we have multiple sleds also but the gumbo mud in the delta won't allow for them to be moved during season. All fields are always prepared for the next planting season so mud is a big issue.

I was thinking the boat idea would give us a go anywhere, set up anywhere and removable feature.

Why wouldn't you just stubble-up a couple marshrats or coffin blinds and drag them out to the middle of the flooded area?

For sure. The MoMarsh boat mght be overkill if you aren't sasquatch-sized and all you are looking for is something to hide in for shallow water and a "drag and drop" kind of scene. Meaning, if you don't really need a BOAT and really just need a waterproof blind then the marshrat with camo cover and grassed up might be perfect. There are other similar things (like the beavertail blind and I think FA or Drake sells something also) that fit the bill.

I have one of each which is why I can give advice on both.
