DUCK SILO"S HERES HOW

Postby Billblue » Mon Sep 18, 2006 1:14 pm

My son and I went to a city park in late winter when Mallards were in full color. With a 35mm digital camera he took over 30 pics. He has a scanner, enlarged them 8x10.

Went to a print shop, they enlarged them on to 11x17 card stock, color copies on for under $ each. They made a mirror image, left and right.

Next cut both sides out, spray glue both sides together.

Went to Office Max,had them laminated.$each. Trim excess around edges,be careful not to trim to close you'll open laminate.

Take a scotch pad remove gloss, give them two coats Krylon Matte finish.

Got paint stir paddles for 10c, stapled with 1/2" staples with paddle on back, bend them over on paddles. Do paddles 1/2 facing one way 1/2 the other. Paint paddles to match decoy. Sharpen paddle. Paint lower half brown/tan, whatever is best for you. For around $3 each I have as many as I want, with all types of poses. Outlaws/Reel geese Mallards $100.00+a dz.

Nothing like hunting over decoys you've made.

Great idea!
I may have to get the wife out with her camera and give this a shot. $3 per silo is a deal!!
I'm just curious. Why not take your photo's closer to duck season. If you don't hunt ducks when they are in spring plummage then why would you want your dekes looking that way? I'm not trying to be rude, just wondering if you know something I should learn about.
