Pit in middle of rice field , best way to blend in?

Postby staticarc » Wed Jun 26, 2013 8:15 pm

My pit is in the middle of a rice field and the farmer is yet to leave me a "false levee".
Last year he burned the field anyway, so all I had was very short stubble that didn't last long
Into the season.
Thought about lining up a bunch of square bales on both sides
Of the pit, then going out into the field in front and behind me and off setting several more lines of square bales
. In theory this would look like a few broken check rows scattered in the field .
Waste of time or would or help?
Shoulda tried em that last swing...

If you use the bale idea get them in the field as soon as possible so the birds get use to them.

I would plant a ring of native grass around the pit some blue stem or Sudan grass

I wouldn't plant anything in the field unless you wanted the farmer to do even less for you. You could always try and get him to pull you one up when they tear their levees down in the fall.
