Mixed goose and duck spread

Postby Duckslayer920 » Sun Oct 28, 2007 2:55 pm

Hey I was wondering what all spread you field hunters out there use when you mix the ducks with the geese dekes. Ive always just put the goose dekes in families in a large U and scattered the mallards out. i was wondering if there was a better way to mix them? thanks

Here is the layout that seems to work the best for me.
I place my layout blind in the middle with 1 MoJo decoy directly in front.
I will then place about 12-24 goose decoys out in front of me on both sides in a "U" type of pattern but not directly in front of me.
I will then put the mallard decoys in the middle of the "U pattern directly in front of me, right around the MoJo decoy.
I then place a couple more MoJo decoys way at the end of each end of the "U". Facing in every direction so the spinning wings are visible to all directions.

I do the U or V or X. Blind is upwind of Honkers decoys. Mallard decoys are behind me. Honkers do not like the fly over ducks it seems from observations, so keep that in mind.

Dolsmi, looks like a heck of a hunt. I'd be pretty happy with 2 or 3 mallards lol. We mainly just see geese though. And yea Ive tried the X a couple times. Still searchin for that favorite spread.

when we hunt fields we have fields all around so usually when they flood they flood 3 or 4 fields in a row right next to eachother so we usually set up the full body duck decoys in 1 field and the goose ducoys in the field right next to them about 50 to 60 yards away
