wings and wetlands

This weekend was the wings and wetlands program in NW Iowa. On staurday morning there were several trumpeter swans released in the area, with the local DNR officer giving a short presentation on the bird, and then releasing 2 of them at different spots. He let the kids touch the bird's, and get up close for pictures. Also that day they had a air rifle shoot, bird bingo, canoeing, and many more fun and games for kids.

On Sunday there was a presentation on bald eagles, with an actual live bald eagle at it. It was pertty neat, this was the first indoor show for this particular eagle, wich was a two year old. So it was kind of frightened when it came out of it's cage. It did'nt really help matters with all the kids sitting up front and close to it. The eagle tried flapping its wings, at first , and all the kids jumped, and some shreiked, that did'nt calm him down any  . But after a while the eagle calmed down, and just sat there.

It was a very interesting, and educational weekend for kids and adults. I would urge anyone in the area to come join the fun next year. Best part of it all it's free!!! And the kids have a great time
Any day in the outdoor's is better than at work
