Earlier this year, Sen. Jon Tester of Montana introduced a legislative package called the Sportsmen’s Act of 2012 that would provide a whole host of benefits to hunters and anglers.
The act is a compilation of nearly 20 bills that focuses on increasing access for recreational hunting and fishing and reaffirming the country’s commitment to habitat conservation. Among other things, the bill would:
renew the North American Wetlands Conservation Act
promote shooting ranges on public lands
promote better access to public lands
Senator Tester and other sportsmen-conservationists in the Senate have made several attempts to bring the bill up for a vote; all efforts to pass the Sportsmen's Act of 2012 have failed.
Senate leadership has indicated that they plan to hold a vote on the legislation this weekend.
Passage of the Sportsmen's Act of 2012 would be a major step forward for hunters and anglers. Please take a moment to ask your Senators to pass this important legislation!
