As an Iowa duck hunter I cannot for the life
of me figure out why
in the heck we do not have a Specific 3 day NR Waterfowl Hunting
license only! We do not as a state sell very many NR full season
waterfowl hunting licenses at a $140 plus dollars. We are loosing great
revenue potential by not having a 3 day NR Waterfowl Hunting Lic option
Creating this option would not have any adverse effects on Iowa
The folks who live on Iowa's borders who hunt Iowa every year will
still end up buying a Iowa full year lic at the present price of $140
offers them options to come hunt before their season opens. We as a
state do not , again do not sell a lot of NR waterfowl hunting licenses
as a whole. Simply put, most NR waterfowlers cannot bring themselves to
pony up $140 plus dollars to come hunt 2 maybe 3 days at best and that
is where we lose revenue.
This even applies to our spring snow goose hunting opportunities.
what many of them chose to do is hunt other states that do offer up a
short NR Waterfowl licenses option at a fraction of the price. It is
I would like to work on this option as a Bill this year. The present
Price & NR waterfowl lic option
discourages NR waterfowl lic sales and what we do get is marginal
participation levels and revenue support. We can greatly improve our
ability to increase our revenue streams that support our state duck
stamp and state Habitat stamp programs.
Create a 3 Day NR Waterfowl License Option at the price of ( $47.00 )
This license Option would not be valid for the use during the 1st week
of Iowa's waterfowl season openers in all zones in both segments.
The extra $5 dollars that is or would be generated under this New
Option would strictly be applied to Support Iowa Waterfowl
Habitat Projects that are directly linked to the Iowa Public Hunting
Access Program or NAWCA grant program. We could enroll more public
access to more waterfowl hunting & Upland hunting opportunities on
I certainly would like to have your Support on this option and look
forward to hearing from you on this.
On another note as I review the state of Iowa's general revenues /
budget surplus, I think we should based on the budget surplus Request
that those surplus dollars be allocated to Support the Sustainable
Conservation Funding Initiative until legislature at some point is able
to increase the state sales tax. At least this way the Sustainable
Conservation Funding is able to get to work for the people of Iowa and
the Iowa Landscape, water & soil issues that we continue to struggled
with. If we do nothing the legislative effort that was put down to
pass the measure is Nothing more than a Good idea on paper collecting
dust on the shelf. What I am saying is that our state Rainy Day Budget
surplus must be maintained at it's minimum and all general revenues
dollars that are Surplus above that minimum should be directly
allocated over to Support the Sustainable Conservation Funding
Initiative. Please folks get active and start making those contacts.
Lets all work together to make it happen.
Sincerely your friend
Sioux City Iowa
