Are any of you Pheasants Forever members or enjoy pheasant hunting? If so, I am sure you will be getting to know our newest team member in the near future. Royce will begin working with the Iowa DNR and PF/QF on July 29th, 2013. Royce is originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. During his studies there, Royce was the leader of his Army ROTC program and earned his commission as an active duty, infantry officer in May 2009. After a deployment to Afghanistan and the completion of his military commitment, Royce returned home to Iowa and joined the PF/QF team. Royce and his wife, Jana, enjoy a wide variety of outdoor sports and activities, and they are both excited to reconnect with friends and family in the great Midwest.

Online Adult Hunter Education
On July 1, 2013 a new law went in effect allowing Iowa residents ages 18 and older to complete an online only adult hunter education course. Adult students who began one of the online courses prior to July 1, 2013 will be required to complete a field day or retake the new Adult Online Only Hunter Education Course in order to receive certification. A field day voucher will not be accepted as proof of Hunter Education Certification. In addition to the current tan certificate that everyone is used to seeing from Hunter Education Graduates three additional certificates will be considered as acceptable proof of Iowa Hunter Education.

All four certificates/cards should have the Iowa Department of Natural Resources clearly printed on them along with the students name, date of birth, date issued, instructor, and an audit/card number.

Iowa Wingshooting Education Workshop Course
In August the Iowa DNR will be hosting two Wingshooting Courses. The Iowa DNR Wingshooting Education Program is a workshop designed to assist bird hunters with improving their effectiveness using steel shot. Topics covered include: Assessing & improving shotgun shooting skills, proper pattern testing, proper selection of shotgun, chokes, and shot shell loads Steel shot vs. lead shot Recoil concerns.
Participants will have two short classroom sessions. The majority of the workshop will be spent on the range working one-on-one with the instructor. Participants should bring: The shotgun they use for hunting, Choke tubes, Non-toxic shotgun ammunition for pattern testing, Eye and ear protection, Stool or chair, and appropriate clothing for weather condition as the majority of the class will take place outdoors. Lunch will be provided.

Volunteering and Youth Activity opportunity in Northeast Iowa
The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is hosting a JAKES day event in Manchester Iowa.
