Trumpeter Swan's shot!!!

Postby duckdog » Tue Oct 11, 2005 8:20 pm

This past Saturday, two young men (15, and 21) were hunting near Otter Creek Marsh, in Tama County. They had a flock of geese coming into them, and the sun were in there face, when they shot there were trumeter swan's in with the geese. The hunter's said with the sun in there eye's that they did'nt reconize the swan's, and did'nt mean to shoot them. We all know that there is a huge difference in wing span, and body size between geese, and swan's. The one good thing that came from this, was that the hunter's that shot the swan's new they did wrong, and immediatley called the proper official's, and turned themselve's in.

Now shooting a protected bird is wrong, and in no way do I agree with it, but I do comend these people for living up to there mistake no matter how bad it is. Liquidated damage's are most likely to be set at one thousand dollar's a bird, don't know if there will be any additional fine's or not. these were not just some young people out banging away at bird's, they were experienced hunter's, that have been brought up to respect game by there father, who is a long time hunting instructor. This can be a lesson to us all, that no matter how good we think we are, we alway's need to double check are target, and what is beyond it!!!
Any day in the outdoor's is better than at work
