Just got my certificate back from the one banded duck I got this year, a drake mallard. This one was hatched in 1997, banded in August 97. I was surprised that he was over 8 years old. Pardon my ignorance about waterfowl age, but that seems like an old duck to me. Not sure I want to eat this one. What is the average lifespan of a wild duck anyway? Just curious...

not real sure to any of your questions....although I would not have any problem eatting the duck....
In a DU mag a few issues back it read that the oldest duck ever shot w/ a band was a 28 Canvasback....so your youngster there is plenty young
.........Congrats on the band
