Teal Opener????

Postby cyoung24 » Wed Aug 31, 2011 9:00 pm

I'm gonna hop in the scouting machine and head south this weekend to see if there is any huntable water for the teal opener next weekend. Just seeing if there is anybody interested in hunting the opener with me if I can find anything that is worth waking up for. I plan on looking for water this weekend then heading down the Friday before the opener to check it out again. If I find something worth it I'm more than happy to share. Let me know if anybody's interested.

My family lives in Gardner. I'd be more than happy to keep you company. I'm 24. PM me if you're interested. I'll pull my weight, just ask around and I have more toys than you can shake a stick at.

How far south are you planning on coming?

Jensenja I'll shoot you a pm if I find anything. T man I'm probably gonna go around MDC. I've got a pretty decent spot outside of Pitt my buddies showed me when I lived down there, but they can't hunt the opener and I wouldn't hunt it without them. If MDC fails me then I may head down there cause I know some places that will have water for sure.

Sounds good cyoung.

Tman, what's your plan for the opener? The usual stomping grounds? Were pretty dry up North. Your spot holding water?

yeah, teal season is going to suck this year. You guys should all just stay at home and do yard work. There's no need to even scout.

Had been seeing a group of 8 teal what little water was left in a drying creek bed. That water will be gone by Wed. Saw 20 chilling on a mudflat of what was once a nice farm pond last night. I am working OT the opening weekend, but I have some tricks up my sleeve and will at least try to find somewhere with enough cover (and water) to try a hunt.

It's suppose to rain today then cool down. I doubt its gonna be enough but I've got my fingers crossed. I'm probably gonna go out Sunday or monday to look for water but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'm not even sure dad and I are even going to head out  but I was also thinking about making a plond my self. I have a few spots where I think it might work out.

Hope ya'll did okay...I hunted the MO side and it was a bust...only waw one grp and we got 2. Buddies hunted Jamestown and Perry and said it was bad....3 birds killed out of 12 buddies in both areas. Not sure the deal...hope more to follow headed south? Scouting last two weeks showed more birds, but not many around this weekend.

i hunted northern missouri. We saw 1 flock of teal and some big ducks. Only shot 1 teal when it suicide landed in our spread. Then my dog made his first hunting retrieve. After some phone calls, the general consensus was that everyone's day was the same. The teal are not coming hard yet.

There are not as many teal around this year as in most years past. When we had multiple nights in the 40's I thought it would really bring those blues down quick. For some reason they are just not in Kansas with the same numbers as usual. I understand some areas are short of water but even the locations with plenty of water are lacking the normal teal numbers.

Any Thoughts?

talked to 2 people who hunted and limited out. One was south central ks and the other was north eastern. I think they found the X for sure. Everyone else i have talked to has said there are no ducks down yet, KS and MO. I feel like the weather has not been cold enough up north to push them down yet.

The area i hunted in MO is normally swarming with teal, but not this year. Come to find out the CA that usually hold large numbers of ducks we were near, well, their pumps had broken down recently so they had no water

We hunted a place with nice habitat. We were the only people hunting it. I really thought it would be full of ducks with the cold weather a week or so earlier.

There have been many teal seasons with no evening temps in the 40's, yet we have still shot plenty of ducks those years. I was really surprised to not have teal around. We had several groups land on us right before shooting time. Then just at shooting time we had a group land and shortly after had a single drop in. Other than that we didnt see any more activity.
