Visiting Kansas over Thanksgiving week

Postby c14smalls » Wed Oct 12, 2011 7:09 am

I will be in Topeka, KS for a week for Thanksgiving for some family time with a little pheasant hunting mixed in. I am thinking about bringing my duck stuff along if there is any good hunting in the area. Maybe public land? I have never hunted in Kansas so I am not sure whats there honestly. My wife's family has a lot of farm land around Wakefield with a few small ponds but none of them duck hunt and can do my scouting for me. If all else fails I can just try the ponds. I understand if no one wants to give info just figured I would ask.

you might be a little east for some good pheasants to be honest. That said you will be decently close to some public lands. Check the walk in hunting maps on kdwp

I'd just stick to your farm ponds. Our public land will be no good this year...

You'll do decent around Wakefield. There's some good public hunting right around there. Just scout and find the birds. Nobody can tell you any more than that.

you have more water than we do in TX if you want to pheasant hunt you need to go west a long ways you might as well pay a guide service becuase alll the public will be full up in ks that week.

We have family with farm ground in the Wakefield area. Pheasants are no where near what they used to be. We get 1-2 per day for the group per day of hunting. THere are pockets of them if you can find the right area.

Good luck for public land ducks around thanksgiving. Thats one of the times that I try to avoid public.

Public land during thanksgiving is hell. That being said there is a lot of public land to hunt around the Topeka area, the KDWPT is pretty good about telling you where public land is if you go to their site. Tuttle and Milford will be hard to hunt this year because of how high the water has been.
