I think what dozer is trying to say is why not buy a echo call because thats basically what you are selling. You could stick a echo insert into a piece of pvc pipe and it still would sound like a echo call.

Will you do a custom WingMan?
I like the wood in your calls, but have never liked a call with a flared mouthpiece, much preferring a straight barrel like the classic Louisiana calls (Haydel, Duck Commander, Faulks, etc.)
Can you do a barrel like that for the same price? If so, you have a customer.

I don't care for the flared mouth piece either. But at any rate good luck with your call making. Looks like alot fun and also very time consuming.

Postman just dropped off my new Wingman Aviator, and I can tell you it's a beauty.
It also sounds awfully ducky. To bad the duck season closed yesterday!

I can tell you this; it will be the call I use first next year. Nice job, Matt.

I like it, I live local (north of KC in Leavenworth)...would love to pick up one of your calls.

You have a shop or all mail order at this point? How far from acrylic call?

Cocobolo wood costs between $2-3 for enough to make a barrel. Actually this is pretty cheap considering other woods that calls can be made out of. The aluminum bands and inserts can be purchased from Echo for $0.70 and $5 respectively. That being said, there is around $9 of raw material in your call not including shipping. I understand that this does not include your tools and time. I think what everyone on here is trying to say is that the sound of the call is just an echo duck call. The barrel does not have much at all to do with the sound. You can take a 1.5" wooden dowel and drill a 5/8" hole in it and accomplish practically the same sound. Until you make your own toneboard and insert design, I think you will constantly run into the folks that want to knock your call for just being "another Echo insert in a custom barrel."

No one here has said that.

If that's what people want to think, then they should be flocking to buy the WingMan calls.
Matt charges $30 for his call.
The cheapest Echo I could find in Cabela's is $50.

If you want a very nice "Echo" call for a bargain price, get a WingMan.

Actually they kinda did say that.....

And if you go on echos website mudpack, you can buy a complete echo call with the exact same insert that he is selling for $29.95, but it is all poly. The wood/ poly like he is selling is $50 from echo. So yeah, you can get a better deal from him if the wood/ poly call is what u want. Just depends on what u want.

Actually, one person (not "everyone on here") kinda/sorta alluded to that, yes. But, the big question is ....is it true?

If you take the calls apart from a dozen different call manufacturers, you'll find that the guts are pretty much identical, so this doesn't worry me overmuch.

Read this thread: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=181579

Most of your inserts may look the same, but 1/1000" will make a difference. Whether it be in the radius, the reed length, toneboard length, bore depth, etc. Barrels don't make that much difference. Unless the barrel is considerably shorter or longer, you will still get the same sound out of an insert. The magic is in the insert. The barrel has to have the same bore size (5/8") in order for the insert to fit, so the only real differences that can be achieved in making a barrel is the material and the length.

So to answer your question, yes it is true.

Don't even try to argue with the man, Matt, it serves no good purpose.
You make a good call at a great price....one that can stand on it's own merits.
I'm impressed with the one you made for me.
