Anything Goinig On?

Postby cyoung24 » Tue May 22, 2012 6:31 pm

It's been kinda boring around here lately. Anything going on? Any news from the KDWP$T, changes at the duck parks, or projects? Any cool off season projects, purchases, pics? Any big fish being caught out there. I finally got into some wipers and white bass this past weekend at the ozarks. I also just recently finished redoing a trailer for my new Four Rivers layout boat. Now its time to start on the boat, grass, blind doors etc. I'll post some pics when I take some with my real camera not my crappy phone camera. Just want something new to look at. Post away.

Been training my pup and trying to get her to pass her natural ability test, she didn't fair well in the heat last weekend so I have some more work to do. Would like to get her through it and work on getting her ready for dove and teal season.

Been cleaning out old hunting crap, sold a few deeks that have just been sitting for a couple years. Working here and there on the boat. And am doing a back yard landscaping project that is kicking my butt.

Haven't mowed in 2 weeks, it still looks like the day I mowed it, except its brown now. My boat's not gonna do any good this fall if there's no water. We're starting off worse than last year. No snow melt, no rain = no duck season.

Finally bagged a good wiper at the Ozarks Saturday. She put up a good fight especially since I forgot my net.

I'm down in Houston working, corporate America and big city living are two things I'm not accustomed to. I miss catfishing with my buddies back home and watching the beans grow. Big plans for next season have to be funded somehow, that SBE2 American costs twice as much as my stoeger did.

Thanks Dozer. Funny story, we were trolling and I snagged a lawn chair and pulled it in 10 minutes before I caught it in the same spot. I must have made her mad when I took her home away. Then the dogs just about tipped the boat when I was trying to land it.

Here's a picture of a fellow dhc member (sixXgun) and good friend caught couple weekends back. We had a good haul for a overnight trip. This one weighed at 42 lbs. We had 2 20lbs a few 10-15s. and 2 12-14lb channel cats.

How did you catch these? Lines or poles?

We caught the 42 on a pole. We caught a couple of the smaller ones on a few limb lines we set. We only set I think 3 that night. 2 of the three had fish.

We were using 3-4 inch perch. And my buddy was using 80lb braided line. We had one snap 60lb braid last year. His drag was set all the way down and it was pouring line off his spool like he was hooked into the back of a truck. He had to slam his thumb in his reel to slow it down. He fought it for over an hour before the sucker finally made one last run and snapped his line clean.

That was a big ol boy.

We always fish drop offs, brush piles, or big holes. That 42 lber was caught in about 4ft of water though up on a sand bar. We hooked into several fish of that sand bar that night too... they were up chasing crawdads. All the bellys were packed with em.

that one nice fish. what kind of pole and batecaster are you useing? I use a 10-50# ungley stick tiger rod, with avengers 80 reel, 50# big game line
Im looking for a new set up, becuae I dont like this reel, with no bait clicker.
Are the fish done spawning?

channels are... I think the flats are probably in the middle of spawn now. Some of ours had eggs, but they weren't of milky spawning consistancy yet. That was Memorial day weekend.
I use a white ugly stick with a ambassador reel. Love em. Although I'm not sure my reel could handle anything bigger than 40-45lbs. Its a 550 I think.
Its the cheaper model.
