Went out today with my father and we were able to scratch out a limit. Took us until about 10 but it was a fun hunt. Had about 500 pelicans float right into the decoys. It was a wonderful sight. Here are the pics. One of the blues I took was very dark colored. Maybe a mix with a cinnamon?
Well done . We scouted Thurs. and also saw lots of Pelicans but very few Teal . Glad to see at least you found them. Congrats on a good hunt with your father.
Some guys from SG county had a great first hunt of the season today. Got Popped for shooting Pintails 15min before LST at quivera. Escorted out of the marsh by the Wardens.
You can't make this stuff up, and I thought JOCO hunters were idiots.

In the middle part of the state tags with "SG" are every bit as hated as "JO" tags in the eastern part of the state. Growing up anytime we were upland bird hunting and saw SG tags parked in a field we assumed they were rich doctors coming in to lease up all the land we hunted.
We managed a few birds this morning but in a really tough place to hunt. Two inches of water on top of 18 inches of mud! I'm too old for that kind of work. The cold front made for a very comfortable teal hunt with NO MOSQUITOES!

The birds have not started to show breeding colors yet. We get a lot of very dark blue-wings (but not this year!)
As far as the eye color; I believe the drake's eyes change from brown to orange-red during the breeding season, but I could be wrong on this.

The short answer is "not very well". We were in my boat with the Beavertail blind that is grassed up pretty good. We didn't get any groups of birds to decoy in close but there were enough that flew in range to make it a hunt. We killed four birds between us.

My friends were sitting 300 yards down the bank from them. Said they shot a few widgeon too. The ranger came over and started checking his bag and he said "wait till you get to the next group". lol what a bunch of tards
We went out Sunday and shot a 3 man limit in 25 minutes. We were packed up by 7:30. A very satisfying start to the season, even though I still have 2 months to go before I can hunt ducks.... :hammer:
