Teal Hunting this weekend?

Postby Captain16 » Tue Sep 05, 2006 3:21 pm

Just wondered if anyone was going to get some teal this weekend? I am not sure if I am going to make it out or not? Thought about running up to Cheyenne Bottoms, or Quivira, but not sure about the crowds as I have never hunted Cheyenne and only been to quivira twice. Anyone around the Wichita area going?

Around KC you are going to have 1,000 people on the four local/public places you can hunt. SO NO WAY, I may go private for dove.

I'll be hitting the bottoms this weekend, but doane is right. Everybody is a duck hunter when it is nice out so I'm sure it will be packed.

Yeah, Fowl, I thought about heading out there, but since I have never been out there, figured I better scope it out first. Who knows where I would end up if I didn't. Have you been out by the bottoms since they go their water? Just wondered if it looks as good as it sounds?

Captain,
I am guessing you have never hunted Chy on an opening weekend. It's just one big pass shoot. I know a lot of old timers that don't even bring decoys because they won't need them. It's a lot like MDC opening of big duck, at sunrise the duck go everywhere and then the shooting begins. They just bounce from pool to pool until the find a safe place to sit. Then as people are leaving the kick new groups back up. There will be about 500 guys out there and it's a good time. The only way you will do any decoying is if you can find a corner way away from people. Otherwise the group of 7 coming at you started the day as a group of 12. You will shoot your limit though.

Yeah, that is kind of what I was thinking it would be. I might try to make it out during the week next week. I would at least like to scope it out and see what I see, so maybe later this year I can get out the boat and get some ducks during the week. Don't really think I would ever head out that way during a weekend, unless the weather is just horrible.

I went to the bottoms on Sat. morn. and we got our limit. The bottoms looks great! We had em decoying for the most part. It was crazy we got there at 5:30 and there were people set up already, glad we got there when we did. It's not a bad idea to scout it out, but there will always be someone where you want to be.

I went out the second with my cousin's husband, we got 3 each. Should have limited out. Saw all kinds of ducks. Probably 100-150 teal. 20 Mallards, 12 woody's, couple of divers and 2 pintail. What a morning. It was real hard not to shoot at those big ducks. Going again Sat. This could be a good season me thinks.

I was in Great Bend, KS this afternoon for work. I stopped by the bottoms on my way back home to the KC area. Wow there were a lot of teal. I wish I brought my gun and waders, (I will from now on during the regular season) I spoke with a couple of guys who were out hunting and they should have easily had their limit.

It was great to see literally thousands of teal flying aroung. I can't wait for teal season next year.

Also I saw about 6 roosters.

That truly is a neat place.

everyone is lying, the bottoms is a horrible place, there are no birds, no water, nowhere to hunt, the wardens strip search you with only one rubber glove (yea that hand), and theres a strange plant out there that gives people crotch rot (i hear it'll make your junk fall off)

Aside from the ducks, there are also rattlesnakes and Brown Recluouse spiders.

At least that is what a local told me.

Well if it makes you feel better we went back out this morning and saw every kind of duck that has ever been to Kansas except Teal. I'm sure your sister is a lovely girl. I just could'nt resist the webfeet, pu**y foot joke. Oh and as far as my sister if you kill ducks I already like you better than her husband. Good luck this season. :umm:

No. I'm up by Topeka. We went to a marsh at Melvern. Got 3 each last Sat. Lots 'o' Teal. Not so today. No wind, no teal. Had some good times though with some friends, my 2 sons and alab on his first hunt. Glad you can take some heat, give it back and keep on smiling.
