Early Zone Opener Roll Call!

Postby quackattack1991 » Mon Sep 30, 2013 6:47 pm

Who all will be hitting the marsh this coming weekend?

I love this time of year. Weather starts cooling off, football gets good, and the ducks start flying. Been a long wait, but the season is about here. Right now the prediction for Friday night and Saturday is heavy North winds. Should make it interesting. I plan to be somewhere hiding in the marsh. Who else?

Trust me, I wish I had that luxury as I did last fall. Working 30 hours a week and going to school 15 hours will make me a weekend warrior until Thanksgiving and Christmas this season. Just gonna have to work a little harder than everyone else.

Past 3 years I've said I would skip the opener and it's crowds, yet for the past 3 years I've ended up hunting it sooooo I'm not going to lie to myself this year

I can't make it out there until the 2nd weekend. Going to hunt Fri, Sat, Sun of the 2nd weekend and Sat/Sun of the following weekend. That will keep me busy until the Oct 26 opener.

I won't miss opening day...tradition, ya' know. Won't hunt after that morning until probably Tues or Wed. I seldom hunt on Saturdays or Sundays after the openers.

Good thing none of the NWRs are in the early zone. I'll be at work, you folks have fun. May come out the middle of next week. Trying to get this house sold so its taken priority.

I hope too as I just spent $46.50 getting my resident hunting license, HIP permit, state and federal waterfowl stamps last week. I plan on going somewhere up around McPerson and see If I can connect some teal with my .410

I'm thinking about heading out to McPherson and staying with a buddy to hunt the early zone opener. I've never hunted the early zone opener is it even more nuts than the late zone opener, with guys from Eastern KS (like me) heading out there?

I scouted MAC in the haze and fog this more and wasn't impressed with the numbers. There may be more hunters there than ducks on the opener.

Drove out a couple years ago. The year before the drought and hunted McPherson. Never again!!! Place is a zoo!!! Set up and had ppl come in to set up on top of us. Not worth the time to head that way from Eastern KS. If you want a headache on your hands go for it!

I'm not going out. I live just north of Mcpherson wetlands but it will be crazy with hunters. My daughter is dancing in Hyllningsfest in Lindsborg. I will be out deer hunting in the morning though. I'll let all the newbies and city boys have the opener. I prefer to go out in mid week and nasty days when all the so called duck hunters are at home or work.

Are you saying those of us that have jobs and have to work aren't really duck hunters?

Didn't mean that the working guys aren't duck hunters. Just that I can go out in the week when most guys are at work. I work from home and can go hunting in the week when I want. So don't get your panties in a wad. Just nice to hunt during the week and nasty weather when most guys are at work or to lazy to go out when it raining or snowing.

I've been excited all day. I can't wait to put the hurt on some ducks.
