Bout that time

Postby jaker » Wed Oct 30, 2013 8:55 pm

Your favorite Alabama guys are headed y'all's way in about 24hrs! Gonna be a bit warmer than I was hoping, but we will be making the most of it. Come say howdy if you see a grey tundra pulling a duracraft with a long tail and Honda 4 stroke on the back. Good luck to all

Are you trying to bait him or what? Remember last years pissing contest?

Good luck Jaker, there are a lot more opportunities this year for ya.

Ecat, I'll be somewhere west of Missouri and north of Oklahoma, hopefully where the birds are

1) I wouldn't plan on hunting Quivira with its 97,000 ducks, boats aren't allowed.
2) I wouldn't plan on hunting Quivira with its 97,000 ducks, with the North wind we have today and will have the next 2 days,
3) Id take bets the Whooping Cranes will show up and the whole place will shutdown to hunting. BTW I checked my log and
the average dates they show up is October 24/Nov4
4) If theres a pissing contest, make sure youre standing upwind and don't be wearing waders.
5) Just threw number 4 in for a bit of humor

I thought they weren't shutting the whole place down this year because of the whoopers. Maybe not, I never actually seen anything.

Thanks for the advice, I'll make sure to leave the boat and set up in the middle of big salt, heard that's the best spot? Lol, in all seriousness, does anyone else find it amusing that they put exact numbers of birds, like they a tually sit there and count

Rect: Bout that time

Postby cluckmeister » Thu Oct 31, 2013 10:20 am

fowlhunter, the regulations have not changed for this year, next year hopefully the new rules will be in affect

From their website:

Hunting Conditions and Status:

Updated: 28 October 2013

Quivira opened to hunting on September 1 (see chart below). IMPORTANT: despite proposed changes in some portions of the Comprehensive Conservation Plan (which are not yet decided, as the document is still in draft), NO changes to the hunting seasons or boundaries will occur in the upcoming fall/winter 2013-14 season.

Jaker, don't try the Salt Marsh , you'll be up to where you use TP in mud if you do LOL

As for the count I believe they fly over the area in an Plane and take pictures, then they figure the square feet of the area surveyed, then take the average size a duck would take up sitting, then using simple math they figure how many birds are there

I think they count the birds from certain spots, then multiply those counts by a standard number to arrive at the total. It is funny.

I didn't see a gray Tundra this morning....but I saw plenty of other OOS trucks.

Hope your hunts are good 'uns, Jake!!!

HEY Bama fellows I TOLD YA

Hunting Conditions and Status:

Updated: 1 November 2013

Quivira is closed to hunting due to the presence of Whooping Cranes. This closure will be in place until further notice.
IMPORTANT: despite proposed changes in some portions of the Comprehensive Conservation Plan (which are not yet decided, as the document is still in draft), NO changes to the hunting seasons or boundaries will occur in the upcoming fall/winter 2013-14 season.

I knew they'd be on the North wind we have today and the darn things will probably stay until Dec 1st too

Watched mallards drop into sheetwater this morning. Also know where there have been a pile of mallards the last few days. Too bad we only get 2 days to have a shot at them.
