Southeast Unit and Freeze Up

Postby Booches » Thu Dec 05, 2013 4:17 pm

It looks like the Southeast Unit is going to freeze up for at least the next 2 weeks. Do we really want a season running through the end of January. The Marais Des Cygne Waterfowl area, Neosho and the Flint Hill NWR which are all public areas, will not be
huntable. Lets start a count on how many days of the season we will loose due to January Dates. Duck season in this unit should
include all of November and less dates in January. A late one week season in January has always been a gamble. Or maybe we should look at using 54 Highway as the East West boundary of this unit. This way the the southeast unit is truely the SE corner of Kansas.

There will be plenty of open water in January.

There will always be more mallards in the SE zone in January than in November. Unfortunately you are a one dimensional duck killer, so it sucks to be you.

^^^^^^ A bit harsh, but true. Hit the rivers, the large reservoirs, break ice or field hunt. Plenty of opportunities.

Plenty of strip pits in SE zone that don't freeze.

I love it, but I also live close enough to hunt the late, early, and southeast. For you guys who only get to hunt the SE, I guess I could see why it would suck, but I can't wait for January to hunt the SE.
2012-2013 Season

Looking forward to it

Were just starting to get big groups of migrators in. You dont lose days to locked up water, you either chase them in the fields or bust open a hole.
