Ohio River?

Postby northzoneguy » Tue Dec 13, 2005 10:24 pm

Are there any birds on the ohio river? A few buddies and I are thinking about heading south and hunting it around like Derby Indiana or Magnet Indiana. Just wondering how things are looking.

We have been seeing quite a few birds but all they want to do is fly out of KU the power plant circle the river and go straight back. Not even giving the decoys a look.

I hunted upstream of the Medahl and saw about 25 ducks and several geese on 1/6. We had 5 ducks and 7 geese decoy. Killed 2 duck & 1 goose. The other twenty ducks were flying high and wanted nothing to do with us. The geese were slamming a private field directly behind us and there was no chance for a dance with them either. Water was up and moving fast with a lot of debris. kyduk

Kyduk how far were you from the dam.

Upstream of Maysville. Where do you typically hunt? Have you ever hunted downstream of the Medahl? Is it typically crowded with deke hunters where you hunt? Kyduk

Kykid,
Do you put in on the KY side or OH? It appears that a lot of hunters put in In Chilo, Neville, & Augusta. Where do you and most the duckers put in? Have you ever hunted the Petersburg area? If so, where do you typically hunt ther? Thanks, Kyduk

kykid,
I live in Florence and I too hunt near Woopler. I have not had a lot of luck on that end of the river. I seem to see more #'s near Maysville. I hear about your area quite often but, I have never ventured there due to the #'s of hunters that I have heard about too. Have you all ever hunted East Fork, Ceasars Creek, Rocky Fork, or any of the Ohio WMAs that are close to us? What about Brookville lake in IN? Kyduk

I've only hunted duck for about 8 years but that meant a couple of times a year on a pond or a guided trip. I bought myself a G3 1860 with a 90hp and a Beavertail blind this year so that I could get more committed to the sport and not have to rely on my friends for there ponds and boats. I was going to get myself a deer lease for the upcoming season but I think I will try to get a waterfowl lease in OH, that's how much I enjoy it. I need help with my calling. Are you/uncle decent callers? My # is 727-6677 if you want to call and talk about duckin. Take Care, Kyduk

I'll do that, and give me a buzz if you need one too. I hunted Woopler this AM to no avail, we saw 8 geese and that was it. We did not see a single duck. Hope you had a better hunt. Kyduk
