are there any black ducks in ky? i see some kind of duck every morning on my way home and they are not mallards??

Most likely not black ducks but just darker mallards. The drakes can appear like black ducks this time of year because they loose their green heads and turn dark. Blacks usually stick to coastal areas/brackish swamps.

black ducks might not typically live here but a few may get lost and come through. I've killed a few myself right smack dab in here the middle of Lexington (and no they were not black mallards)

We kill many black ducks in KY every year.Dont really see many around here now but do kill plenty during the season.

I killed a couple last year and saw dozens more... I know a guy that shot a double banded one, actually his son, in southern KY around Lake Cumberland... But yes, they are around, but I'd say you saw mallards that are not fully plumed again...

yeah we kill em every year in ballard or ky lake. usually get a couple each season.

Ditto on the summer mallards. I saw a bunch last weekend, only a couple had coloration.

Yea I saw about 60 yesterday at a marina on the Ohio, they all looked like hens...

as your northern neighbor [southern Ohio] we saw more black ducks last then ever ,,oure ones too not the hybrid mallard black mix,,got some beauties!!

its getting that time of year the start to motlen your problably seeing mallards that are motlen. but yes black ducks do come thru here have been on hunts when some have been killed. most come in with mallards.
