I hate to bring this up again and I know the proposed dates almost always stick, but when does the state make the official announcement of the waterfowl season? Season is just over a month away and there has been nothing released. Is this normal?
Chris
Actually thats partialy correct. It always opens Thanksgiving Day thru that Sunday which is 4 days. Then it closes for whatever amount is neccasary for the season to last 60 days total and close on the last sunday in January. There was an instance where there wasnt a split and that was in 09' but it was due to how the calendar worked out. I mean January ended on a Saturday which made the last Sunday like the 25 and between the 25 and 31 was the six days we usually set out. Make sense or do I need to draw a diagram?
60 day season.. always opens thanksgiving day.. always ends the last sunday in jan... thanksgiving through the following sunday is the first segment... the next segment will commence on a date that allows for there to be a 60 day total season ending the last sunday in Jan...
Hey Crisp dont' feel too bad as the idiot who puts the season together acts like it's a really tough process to read the federal framework and change the dates to match the season every year.
I realize the dates are going to be as listed, I am just saying it would be nice to have it in writing. I was hopeful when I moved down here that the ineptitude shown by the IDNR would not happen down here, but this makes me wonder. You are right it's not that big of a deal, but I just like to see it in writing.

Cant wait for the 24th, this cold front pushing down will get everything in gear. The same deal always occurs. We get that first push of Arctic air and the show begins

For the past two weeks I have had wood ducks sitting on the pond every morning and evening, which definitely did not happen during the early season. Mallards pop up from time to time and just as the sun is setting I watch a flock or two (5-6 birds smaller so I am assuming wood ducks) flying toward the big creek north of my house. And this evening there was a grebe swimming around on the pond. I keep hoping to look out and see 4-5 geese or a decent sized flock of mallards sitting there...then I will get really excited.
