How cold is too cold?

Postby DeathCommander » Sat Jan 04, 2014 10:51 am

As I'm sure most of you are aware, we are supposed to get some unbelievably nasty weather in the area towards the end of the weekend into early next week. WKYT now has the high temperature forecasted for 0 degrees monday, with a firm 20mph West wind. I'm wondering what you guys feel about hunting in temperatures that cold, and if most of the water in this state will lock up. I know we all like to think of ourselves as hardcore, but at the end of the day navigating these weather conditions has proven itself to be deadly if not done with a certain degree of caution. So whats your plan?

Birds are in the area, got the ice eater running, tomorrow will be a hell of a morning, but sure will be cold. But it sure hasn't crossed my mind once not to go. Good luck and stay safe!

We hunted for a few hours in it yesterday. Killed five geese and two redheads. It's not miserable if you dress appropriate. Had two generators quit running and the water pump on my boat froze. My be ruined. Ill update that situation this weekend. I said screw it and didn't try to fix it.
It was a great last few days tho. 32 geese and 8 ducks. Not too bad for central ky. Ill try to post some pics if my junk phone will do it

Sugar is a mythical place, with unicorns and sugar plum ferries. It's a majestic place. I mean moth8rf^@king majestic. Like a bald eagle getting a hand job from the statue of liberty herself.

shot 3, hunted a spring pond today, had a nice wad of mallards come in right at shooting light, nothing after that. had 200-300 geese using the area yesterday, nothing today. have to believe they move to more open water down south. Even though it was sparse I did kill a nice drake widgeon on the creek tuesday morning.
