Horrible Season

Hows everyone's season goin? I havn't done this bad in awhile. There area ducks everywhere but them suckers are smart and it seems like everyone and their brother are hunting this year.

Define "horrible"

Have you guys not killed any ducks this season?

I am with you. This has been one of the worst seasons in about 6 years. Our property is holding a lot of ducks but they are all local and very hard to hunt. We have only had 1 cold front this year. There is a reason the northern parts of the country are all having record years, they are still having mild temps and it is Jan!! I am sure they will all start to show up around the first of Feb.....

That being said, my brother hunts in Krotz Springs area down south and they have been smacking them. Seems like north LA all the way to Ark have had it pretty rough this year.

I've only kept accurate records the past five seasons, but our first split at my SWLA blind was the best of those, and the second's generally been a lot of fun, too. Perhaps the drought pushed what you'd normally have on down to our coastal marsh...

Horrible Season

Postby Smackaduck » Mon Jan 09, 2012 2:08 pm

I'm hunting north Louisiana, and the lack of water did nothing but help as far as I'm concerned. Not my best year by any means. That would be back in 99, but I think it will make the top 5 the way it's going.

I have had a good season. It's been hit or miss but I only had two days where I didn't kill. Both days were hot and foggy as hell

1999 should never be compared to any other year as it was the introduction year of spinning wing decoys in mass production availability.

Horrible Season

Postby Smackaduck » Tue Jan 10, 2012 2:08 pm

It made me kill an ass ton of birds!! Lol I somewhat agree with you though. Those first few years were unbelievable though. I had never seen birds act so stupid.

My season has sucked. Thought the low water would help since I can go where a lot of fools cant, but the river has sucked and lakes havent been great either. Prob end season with under 300 and I hunt every weekend.

No food for ducks in NE La. The corn rotted away wet in early December. Geese ate out the few fields that had rice. Weather too warm. Nothing can save us now.
My lab died, and no one on Duckhuntingchat even cared.

For our "group" that hunts together. That's about 5 ppl. Sorry, that's what I meant. We always hunt together so I just know how many we've killed as a group. And when you've hunted probably 35-40 times including teal season its not a good year for us. and judging by the weather we won't hit 300. lol

i havent had any problems up here. same amount of ducks killed as last year(last year i hunted 27 days) this year iv hunted 9. i think i actually may have killed a few more than last year. work is killing me but the weekends we have done good. but overall according to talk this year has been bad. you just gotta get out and find them iv scouted more than iv hunted if that says anything. just go find them if you do you will change your minds

I hunt in NW La., creek/beaver ponds - it's been a bad year. Early part of the season we had a fair number of ducks, then they just left out. I heard some guys who hunted the Red River say the same thing, and I was told that Bodcau WMA didn't have many ducks. We had LOTS of acorns/grass seeds for the woodducks, yet they all left, too. I dunno, strange.
