Okay Rick, I know it had to slow down last week with that stagnant weather. What's the pulse lately man. Where are some pictures?

Did get mighty slow, but most days mallards have helped make up for it. Here's pretty much everything from where I left off above:

Our second slowest morning was with Justice Scalia - oops!

One of my grandsons' first goose hunt and geese (albeit butt shot):

Only two mallards came with this morning's wind shift, but we set the blind's all time jack record:

Those slow days are still productive at least. Our place goes way up and down with the wind. Big wind, big hunts, slow wind, slow hunts. I haven't made it back down, but will be going this weekend. We still haven't killed a mallard other than black mallards. And the place is getting hunted every day.

Rick, I see you are killing a good many mallard hens and saw you posted about a group of all hens. I have been seeing the same thing up here in NE LA. We have killed a good many hens where no drakes were to be found. Weird..

Is it possible that there are just a lot of juvie greenheads that aren't colored up yet? I know that would be a little odd, but it is still fairly early.

Can't speak to what we're seeing with absolute certainty, but what we're shooting are hens.

We hunt just south of Gueydan and on our hunt this mornig we had noticed and spoke of the lack of drakes as well?? The majority of the flocks we worked contained groups of hens mixed with other species.

We have had several hunts here in North La where we have killed only hens and never got shot on a drake.

Lord knows the Arkies produce enough rice that they plainly know what they're doing, but their skinny levees seldom look like they'd hold up to wind erosion.
