hand made cane duck calls

Anybody using an old hand made duck call made from native cane? I heard the cajuns used to make the reeds out of filed down rubber combs, and I was kind of curious if they are still around and being used

I know Mr. Mervis and his son Kendall still make them. [http://chiencaille.com/index.html] I'm not sure if they still use the combs for reeds, but they are great calls. I've had one on my lanyard for 17 years. They also customize it with your name and the year it was made. If you are in the area, Mr. Mervis will sit down with you and tone it the way you want it. Great People!!!

My dad still makes them occassionaly. Stop by True Value store in Rayne to check them out. He has tried to get us to continue making but I am to ADD and brother likes his lathe. Back in the day we used to help make reeds out of combs and records. We still bring him different canes we find and he will make one if we ask. Definately different sound and way to blow. I still use one occassionally (i still like my old yentzen).

I work at Faulk's in Lake Charles. We have handmade cane calls, with cane cut in the backyard. Everything is made at the shop including guts. You can come to the shop and buy one or order online at faulkscalls.com
