What to plant??

Postby duck_pirate » Wed Feb 06, 2013 3:36 pm

I have an opportunity to lease a flooded crp field from a friend that has been hunting it the past few years. He has not been doing to well there because there are rice fields that are 400-500 yards away that attract most of the birds. The farmer told me he would plow it up this summer if I wanted to plant it. What would be the best thing to plant here?

Millet works really well and re-seeds itself.

Just curious what area this is in?

But I agree that millet is easiest for the average man. And ducks will come to it

I don't know what's natural in your area, but here in SWLA volunteer indigo beats snot out of rice.

There is some really good hunting down there. How big of a plot will you get to plant?

chufa if the farmer will till it in for you. if you are just sowing on the ground japanese millet
A duck hunter must follow hunters of the oldest kind in North America. He must live his life a nomad, following the flock wherever it might lead. Through flooded timber, fields or marsh, he does what he must to find success.
