Latest Teal Reports

Postby neus0812 » Wed Sep 11, 2013 10:02 am

Does anybody have any teal reports from this weekend, or the last few days?

I saw the reports that were posted last week, but I haven't heard very many good ones besides those that Rick posted. I am going to my blind a little north of Welsh this evening and will report back with what I see.

I've flown 2 days of the 3-day aerial survey of coastal Louisiana and Catahoula Lake, and I don't have good news. It is certainly the poorest September survey since I've been flying them (2006). The 2 biggest groups I've seen were between transect lines (one of those was north of Welch), and even those weren't what I would consider "concentrations". My friend in South Dakota is reporting lots of teal still around, but that is always the case this time of year as bluewings string out up and down the flyway.

I got a reliable report from a buddy who guides in SE Texas. He said while working in fields this morning they had several groups of 200-300 teal flying around.

Been through a lot of usually fine teal country lately and had to make a pass by one of my very few known bunches this evening just to remind myself of what they look like. Sure would like to be pleasantly surprised Saturday morning.

Well, went and threw out a few decoys and watched for birds a little north of Welsh yesterday evening until dark. Only say 10-15, but that won't stop me from being out there come Saturday!

I don't know how much to believe the report on DU migration map but there seem to be some good reports up near Shreveport today

I've been monitoring that so called tracker for a few days, I haven't seen any good reports from that area, including today. The ones on there now are from the 10th, and they're not very exciting, to say the least.
It is a good tool for a migration tracker, if used as intended.

Dave, spoke with your buddy Tim on your piece this morning and he's seen zip. But five got up, count 'em: 5, on Mike Francis' piece to your NW when we passed it. And one of our marsh guides claims to have seen a passing flock there this morning, but I sure haven't.

(Had two knock-downs on a line tied to your outside flood gate, but no gator. Everything inside was too weeded up to fool with.)

Yeah, he gave me the wonderful news. There have been a few hanging around that gate.

Hoping what little north wind my weather app says we're suppose to get tomorrow ,I believe ,will trigger enough to move down for a decent shoot this weekend.

The reports from our lease aren't cause to jump up for joy but I'm hoping that it will be enough to scratch out a limit.....our lease is located near the Bonnet Carre spillway

Got 5 this morning. Left the blind at 8:10 and probably should have stayed longer. Had a good time, though. We will sit longer tomorrow. Didn't see a whole lot of birds, but it was a satisfying hunt, for us. Maybe more will migrate in overnight?

don't know how everyone is doing but we just got some really good numbers of ducks into western KY over the last 2 days. Went to put some brush on a blind this morning and had 7 flights over me with 10-20 birds each. All blue wing teal. Hope this is helpful. We cant shoot till Wed.

We had a good shoot this morn. Not as good as would have liked but much better than expected.

Funny how when you leave the blind with less than a limit and feel like you coulda done better. Then you talk to all your buddy's who didn't shoot squat. All of the sudden you feel like you had a fantastic hunt.
I expect it to be better tomorrow. Them teal usually have to get shot out of the rice fields for a day or two, then they start showing up more in our marsh.

Retired Army disabled Veteran, been laid up all summer had back surgery 30July and neruosurgeon found 6 metal clips,3 4" wires and 2 2" piese pf plastic tubing left in my back since my spinal cord stimulator was removed because of not working in Dec 03, then what i thought was bladder infection turned out to be fist sized inguinal hernia so had surgery 28 Aug. I passed your info on to a guy who works with an organization called freedom hunters. They organize hunts for injured veterans, kids of deployed soldiers, gold star families, and select active duty service members in Louisiana, Missisisppi, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri. Best part is, the hunts won't cost you a dime.

Thank you for your service!
