Venice, LA guides

Postby Redhead73 » Sun Jun 29, 2014 7:23 pm

Looking to book a trip to the Venice area for the '14-'15 season. Me and some buddies are on a quest for a bull Can. We originally planned to hunt Lake Seminole, Ga (only a few hours from me), but there is just too much pressure on that lake come duck season with absolutely no Regs, so it's hunted from sun up to sun down every damn day. Ridiculous.

Who knows a good guide service, individual, or lodge that will put us on some birds in Venice, LA? Cans preferably.
Appreciate it.

Venice gets a few cans but they are thick on Catahoula Lake late season, if you're trophy hunting for a Bull Can, that's where I'd go.

Venice is a great place to go, but I agree with cajunwannabe. If I'm going after a can to put on the wall I'm going to catahoula.

You probably can't go wrong with either place but Catahoula is definitely known as THE can place of the state. I've yet to even draw a bead on one of them and I often hunt near some large lakes where we'll have loads of scaup and redheads.

Here's a few cans a buddy's blind took not all that far from me one rainy morning this past season:

Appreciate the info and pic yamaha783. I'll head to Catahoula. Are there any folks you know of that guide there?

I hear good things about a fella named Bill Lamb that guides there. If conditions are right, the birds are down and you're willing to tote a boat you can kill 'em on your own tho.

Don't personally know of any guide services, though there are many, so can't really recommend one. Just a quick Yahoo search pulled up a few, this was one of them:

Strongly advise against Superstrike charters out of venice based on personal experience.

Can host you (sorry dont have a big boat) on seminole anytime when the cans get here. Hunt it a bunch and if they're here shouldnt have any problem getting you a nice drake. Just pm if interested.

10-4... May take you up on it. We're going to try it for 3 days or so in January. Hope they're there.
