Group,
Had a blast at Merry Meeting Bay on Saturday. We used the boat access at the wardens camp (along with 5-6 other anxious duck hunters) and had no problems. There is actually a survey box at the landing so I am guessing it must be OK for public use. Also, noticed 6 MMB scull boats anchored here as well!
We motored about 10 minutes down to the main part of the channel (so you could plainly see Brick island) and proceeded to set out the decoys. We set-up 20 mallards and teal (10 each) and put up a Mojo spinner and 3 buffle head decoys. Proceded to anchor the boat and were waiting by 6:00. (Side note: I hope that my brother will be able to send me pictures of the camo job we did on my 12 foot porta boat it is really incredible!)
At opening time we had managed to call in a small group of 3 scaup which we flushed when we stood up and used the boat to quickly collect. About 20 minutes later a Bufflehead flew in and we bagged him as well. We hung out drinking coffee, chewing Red Man and watching the hang gliders until about 8:30 and didn't have another duck come into range (did also have a close call with three geese!). Tide was starting to get low so we headed out. . . all in all a great morning!
