i ran into the same question a few years back and have basically found that duck calls are musical instuments. if u can control your pitches, and tounge movements, and manipulate different sounds out of the call, almost any will work for u. now there are a thousand different calls out there ranging from 20 bucks to over a hundred. on my lanyard i carry a single reed, being a primos p.h.a.t. lady, its red, and a double reed, tim grounds sweet meet. I had a reactor from buck gradner that was about 60 bucks that broke, but honestly, stay away from the beginer call kits, the calls are cheap and they stick or break easily. spend the extra 20 bucks and get a nice single reed, and a nice double reed. a lot if based on how u call, and how you handle the call. but ive had calls ranging from knight and hale, to primos, buck gardner, tim grounds, and duck commander. its all ur preference.

I use my single reed on small potholes where the sound is contained, because its just a bit quieter than my double reed. And the double reed for big water for farther louder hail calls with out splitting the sound

i like the bigger barrel calls but if the smaller are your style the spit tech is a good buy.

i like that bucks has the poly (cheap calls) that are affordable. and then the same model in acrylic so if there is a barrel and reed you like you can have convidence in spending 80+ dollars on a call you no works for you

I love my Quack Head double reed Quack Stacker they are made by Rich-n-Tone. I have never had a problem with it freezing in cold weather. They run about $20 and are very easy to blow. I also am a fan of the Buck Gardener double nasty, it is what I learned to call on. It comes with a DVD, cd and call kit through Cabelas for under $30. Good luck on your choice, there's a lot to choose from. Happy hunting
