me thinks they're moving...

Postby mountainguy » Thu Oct 18, 2012 3:28 pm

Bright and sunny today, 61 degrees out, 1 o'clock in the afternoon...over lunch I drove by a nearby marsh to see if any birds happen to be around. I saw 3 teal, to my surprise. Dug my waders & gun out of the car trunk, snuck around the corner to see if I could get a jump shot. Ended up with 5 birds in 10 minutes, must have been 80 birds in there! Whee.

Huh?!

Bravo. Among so many other things, it's the outings like that that make it so rewarding. :clapping:

Yeah usually lunch is just for quick scouting trips to see if I can spot some birds for the weekend. Every now and then, though, I get a lunchtime shot. Today was ridiculous. I think my shooting was spot on because there were so many birds circling that I didn't have time to think about it.

Except for some mergs and ringnecks, ducks sightings have been scarce the past few days in the North zone.

Thanks @733SubDucker, I've been trying to convince myself that it was a real big hen blue wing teal, but I think you're right on the pintail.

No doubt you've got yourself a hen pintail there. Nice bag of birds.
A serious reduction in the population of black ducks would mean the end of waterfowl hunting for the majority of the New England sportsmen.
