ar15 barrel laws

anyone know the laws? i wanna do a small camp carbine, i like the looks of a 11.5 or 14.5 barrel. would be a great gun to hike with, with the carbon fiber lower i have

My understanding (be that limited) is the barrel needs to be 16" to be sold to the "public". A buddy has one that he did the transfer paperwork at Kittery Trading Post. Barrel is only 14.5" but with the permenant mounted flash surpressor it measures 16" total and that was allowed.

under 16 and you need a federal tax stamp.

yep, talked to my buddy thats a cop. said anything under 16 needs to be papered... doesnt matter much though. all the ones i want are 10 weeks back orderd. might as well shop unclehenrys for a few weeks before i get one
