decided to try one last time before the world ices up for a few months. We hit the water this morning and had to bust through 100 yards of ice to get to open water and then a good paddle to the "X".

Awesome! What are you calling a mottled duck? You mean a mallard/black hybrid?

congrats! love the hardcore perseverance. keep at 'em as long as you can!

HOWEVER... you must mean a hybrid Black or similar. True "Mottled Ducks", which in many ways are similar in appearance to Black Ducks, are found in Florida and parts of Georgia exclusively.

yeah, black/mallard hybrid, 18 years of hunting in Georgia and then the guy with me in the picture is from Georgia so the name sticks. He had green feathers mixed in on the head and was slightly lighter than a black duck.

Daffy, up in Hancock county. it's really been an off year up here compared to last years hunts. didn't see the first wood duck and only one teal all season. Sandy messed up the numbers I was seeing on the lake compared to last years birds. I'm glad we got into the birds and too tell the truth if I wouldn't have felt bad for not putting DJ onto some big birds in the last couple weeks I wouldn't have gone by myself. Sometimes you just need a little push I guess.
