Impromptu Goose Hunt

Postby lames33 » Thu Dec 06, 2012 2:46 pm

Me and a couple buddies put an impromptu afternoon goose hunt together yesterday and had great results, 3 limits. Man I forgot how fun that is.

How were they bunched? Big groups or just singles/doubles?

It's tough to beat a good layout blind hunt on geese- nicely done!

Nice.

Hey I'm trying to understand the pros and cons of shooting lower versus higher velocity BBs at geese. For example, 1550 FPS at 1 1/8 ounce of shot, or 1300 FPS at 1 3/8 ounce of shot. Can someone help me understand why one or the other, beyond the basic question of "faster pellets versus more pellets" in the air? For example, I saw a post that said the higher velocity do not hold their pattern as well; but that the lower velocity is good only at short range. ...?

We saw groups of 12-25 and a couple smaller less weary groups (aka dead groups). I used Black Cloud #2 close range and stoned 2 at 25-35 yards. We saw a total of 200ish birds in 8-10 groups. First couple groups came in when we were still setting up but wanted that spot.
