Just drove up 83 two days in a row for a wedding. I live in Towson MD, so there are a lot of fields/water holes on the way up there. I saw ZERO birds.
I hope it gets cold quick...
Floated the monocacy yesterday. Saw 15 or so birds, about half were woodies. Missed 2, no good shots really. Nice day, just nothing moving on the river. Did not see another hunter.
BUT....I saw tons of geese in a group headed towards the Potomac river. Biggest group I have ever seen outside of the eastern shore. Way up there, and real noisy. It was awesome to see sooooooo many birds. Ducks flying with them as we'll. I think a migration might be starting. 3 swans flew over too, and low. New thing for me out there.
Hunted Upper Potomac today. Saw maybe 5 ducks - lots of sea gulls. No divers. Few other guys out there - didn't hear any shots on the river but did hear a few from McKee.

Hunted the upper Potomac Saturday morning and managed 2 geese with 2 hunters. Had a group of about 20 fly over really low while we were setting up in the dark. The group that we got into had split us. 4 went in front and we both shot at the lead bird and knocked it down. Then 4 more went up river behind us and I made a hail mary shot and downed the second. Still not seeing many geese. Saw a total of about 20 ducks that wouldn't decoy, 12 of which were mallards that flew right over our spread as we were picking up, figures . The most ducks we've seen while hunting since October though.
Went out to McGee this morning despite all of your best efforts... And I should have listened. I didn't even see or hear a duck. There was a bird watcher there who takes numbers for DNR and said the Christmas count this year is almost 0.
I work in VA now, and I drive ALL over the state. I am starting to see more and more ducks on the ponds. And of course a ridiculous amount of geese on ponds (not flying). So they have to be coming soon to MD.
Saw 60 mallards flying low over suburbia, not what we usually see. A dozen at most is all I have ever seen together. Friend in Howard county confirmed a rise in duck numbers. Wish I could get out this weekend.
Saw a group of 20-30 flying from the potomac this evening on the way home from work. Cold front moving in + high winds + reports of new birds = :grooving: for Saturday!!!!
Hunted the Upper Potomac today. I think I keep seeing the same flock of mallards over and over because they want nothing to do with decoys. I did manage to work a group of what I thought were five mallards. I killed two out the flock. One was actually a gadwall. I was surprised. I was able to call in and pick off another single drake mallard. There was one group of about 15 geese flying down the river just out of gun range. Maybe saw 15-20 ducks total.

Anyone know how much rain we are suppose to get out of this front? I'm hunting the river Saturday and the water level is just about perfect for our spot. Hopefully it won't rise to much.
Thanks Md Hunter. I actually use that website as well as a call in number for my local gauge that gives river level, temp., etc. Was just getting anxious with the storm and couldn't find any forecasted rain totals.
Saw 200 or so geese flying over northern MoCo about sundown today. River is up a little bit. Was at 3 ramps today on the potomac and saw no hunters. Not much else noteworthy. Do I believe the weather forecast for Wednesday?
Was out near Frederick this morning. Did not see to many birds. All of them were high and going somewhere else...thought with this cold air we just got, that perhaps there would be some new birds around. I thought wrong.
Merry Christmas!
Scouted yesterday MoCo, HoCo, PG, AA ang QA county. Not much around. Saw one small raft of bills by the bay bridge on the QA side. Few puddle ducks, few geese. Not what I expected to see.
Today Saw 300+ geese in fields that have not had them yet this year. Only in MoCo today.
