Just drove up 83 two days in a row for a wedding. I live in Towson MD, so there are a lot of fields/water holes on the way up there. I saw ZERO birds.
I hope it gets cold quick...

Floated the monocacy yesterday. Saw 15 or so birds, about half were woodies. Missed 2, no good shots really. Nice day, just nothing moving on the river. Did not see another hunter.

BUT....I saw tons of geese in a group headed towards the Potomac river. Biggest group I have ever seen outside of the eastern shore. Way up there, and real noisy. It was awesome to see sooooooo many birds. Ducks flying with them as we'll. I think a migration might be starting. 3 swans flew over too, and low. New thing for me out there.

How was the Potomac yesterday?

Hunted the upper Potomac Saturday morning and managed 2 geese with 2 hunters. Had a group of about 20 fly over really low while we were setting up in the dark. The group that we got into had split us. 4 went in front and we both shot at the lead bird and knocked it down. Then 4 more went up river behind us and I made a hail mary shot and downed the second. Still not seeing many geese. Saw a total of about 20 ducks that wouldn't decoy, 12 of which were mallards that flew right over our spread as we were picking up, figures  . The most ducks we've seen while hunting since October though.

Hunted the Upper Potomac today. I think I keep seeing the same flock of mallards over and over because they want nothing to do with decoys. I did manage to work a group of what I thought were five mallards. I killed two out the flock. One was actually a gadwall. I was surprised. I was able to call in and pick off another single drake mallard. There was one group of about 15 geese flying down the river just out of gun range. Maybe saw 15-20 ducks total.

It has been very tough to get anything to decoy up there...
