Looking to start hunting next year

Postby gnorris74 » Tue Jan 14, 2014 3:10 pm

I am a soon to be college grad looking to get into hunting. I know that the season is getting ready to end in a few weeks so I figured now is the best time to start so I have all of the offseason to prepare for next fall. Any tips or help would be great. I plan mainly around kent island and the annapolis area but I am willing to travel. Again any help would be appreciated.

go out every day you can, sit, watch, listen, read, ask, buy donuts.

the more you hang out around "it", the more you will learn. you are in a good area. you got a boat? get out there middle of the day and see what and who is out there. dont bust birds-glass them. dont approach hunters unless they are waving you in.

honestly one of the best posts i have ever seen on here.

Check out the MD DNR site. While most public lands are not that hot, there are lots of them in MD, many of them not requiring big boats or lots of dekes. Most properties have downloadable maps. I then get on google maps and check out the satellite view to scope out hunting opportunities.

And subscribe to Ducks Unlimited. The magazine and website have tons of good info.

Good luck and follow the advice of previous post, I agree with him also.

You wont be doing much hunting without a lease around KI and Annapolis. Just a heads up.

The best way to learn is form friends. If you are a Buc hit me up.

Count me in too. I'm now gathering gear to get ready next fall. Would love to scout and learn from those who willing to show. I also have access to govt lands such as PaX. Maybe less pressure there

You should name your group "Disciples of OhioBoy"

Edit:

As for scouting, no point in scouting when there are no birds here.
