Canvasback Question

Postby woodduck14 » Mon Jul 07, 2014 8:56 am

Hey guys, I'm looking into booking a hunt on the Eastern Shore this upcoming season.
My target is a bull canvasback. My work schedule gets pretty hectic around prime can hunting time so I'm trying to time it just right.
I can get the last week of December off and I think that maybe too early? Would you guys reccomend waiting til maybe mid January? But not sure if I can get that time off, or go with the last week in Dec where i know i can get the time off?
I know cans are hit or miss, but just looking for my best odds.

Thanks!

Just depends where you are hunting, but January would probably be your best bet.

If you're going with a guide ask them when they think is best. If you're going to take time off a mid-week hunt is a better booking as it will likely mean more options for your guide to get you onto cans.

all depends on weather and what the migration is doing. if you have to book in advance i would suggest booking for mid or early january. we usually don't start killing cans until January.

Also check out black duck outfitters or Pitboss waterfowl. Black duck will surely put you on the birds. Black duck is on the eastern shore.
