hey fellas my dad just moved to maryland a place called colonial beach and the power plant where hes workin is on the potomac.he called me today real exited because of all the ducks hes seen.he saw hundreds of blue bills on the river and buffleheads,ringnecks and he said theres mallards in the ditches on the side of the road.they drove by some field and he said there must have been a thousand geese in the field.just wondering about the rules and regs around there.we have a boat so that wont be a problem.he was real exited about the waterfowl up there.just lookin for some advice thanks

Not exactly sure where that is, but the season for ducks is now closed for the year. Resident geese can be hunted for a little longer yet, though....

If he's in Colonial Beach he's actually in VA., on the Potomac across from lower Charles County, MD. near the Harry Nice Bridge.

yeah he thought so he says hes sees ducks on the river right in front of his house can you hunt there in season are there any marshes near there just wondering

Not real familiar with that area. A strange little quirck in the law is that MD owns the Potomac to the mean low tide line on the VA side of the river so the ducks your dad sees are technically in MD. I've lived in MD for 25 years and have discovered the rules about hunting on waterways have a bunch of wrinkles dealing with who owns the property,etc. I would imagine there are all kind of marshes and what not on the VA side. I do all my goose hunting from blinds in corn fields and do ducks along the rivers in state blinds. Other guys on here know more about those laws and regs than I do.

thanks for the info he said he was gonna try to find a warden to talk to to find out.hes real excited anyway.he says theres alot of black ducks there and i ve only seen four the whole 21 years ive been huntin .we re lookin foward to doin some huntin up there how big of a boat would we need we got a 171/2 ' g3 with a 40 horse.

I think you need a MD resident with you to hunt from a boat in MD waters.

That's correct. Down where this guy is may be different because of the border. Wish some of the upper Potomac guys were watching this.
