Hi guys, I'll be in MD training from late June till November 1st. I'm curious if any one can recommend a guide for the early season. I Greatly appreciate any suggestions. I will be in the DC area and can travel about 4 hours in any direction.
Early Teal and Goose are hit or miss and a lot of guides don't even fool with them. If you blow up your spots in September you will regret it later.. You can check with Chris Sherman of Barneck Outfitters http://www.duckhuntingmd.com/. I believe he offers a combo Sika Deer/Teal hunt if the birds are around.
I might be able to take you on a teal hunt..... it can be great... or it can be ok... but its a very hard hunt to plan. its really goes like this: three elements have to line up perfectly to make it happen; first the birds, second the weather, and third the schedule. its usually a late call... like.. i found the birds and its going to be overcast and windy.. can you be at the boat at 5am? and then ... if its really worth it to ya? alot of effort for a 15 min shoot?... its hard.. October is better... mallards, woodies and teal. I have the 17th open/ oceancitywaterfowl.com
Early goose is pretty good if you can get permission to hunt a fresh cut field usually corn this time of year. As for teal most important thing to bring is your fishing pole. I usually catch more rock than teal.
