Befrind a Vet, Wounded Warrior, Active Soldier

Postby VaTailfeathers » Mon Nov 14, 2011 7:32 am

This weekend I was helping two friends to build a blind and reset another blind that got tilted over and moved by the summer's hurricane. The new blind was specific for a mission one of the guys had. It is a dream of sorts to get a flow of military guys " out there" to hunt this season. Guys that have a want to hunt , but no place to go or how to get started. Last year he took two brothers that graduated HS and both immediately joined the military and were stationed in opposite arenas and rarely got to see each other these may 5 plus years, even at Xmas and holidays. They are now stationed in the same area, our area in Virginia.

Well, they got to hunt together last year and the brothers were something to witness. Tow brothers picking up their lives again. He was so moved, that Craig wants to do this on a larger scale this year. A guy with a heart of gold, he is kind of having a one man Wounded Warrior/ Veterans/ Active Military program. It isn't a "program" as it is just one guy taking out many across the season, you get the picture. He made contact with the brothers and other guys on the Military Forum here at DHC.

I'm heading that way today to get to know some guys and assist Craig, and offer to do the same with my lease's.
Just thought I'd pass this idea along.

Bumpity...

I would hate to see this post get pushed simply due to KJM's hero pics and Spiders incorrigible ball busting.

Any vets on here? Anyone with connections to a vet who might want to pound some birds?

OK,This past weekend we took my friends son USMC Cpl.Tim W. out to our camp in NY for his first deer hunt in 5 yrs. He recently completed his commitment with the Marines in Aug. Well on Sun morning he grunted a 4 pt across a field and harvested him at 40 yards with the rifle. To quote him " I was more nervous shooting at the deer than I was shooting at someone in Iraq"! To make it even better was his dad also shot a 4 pt later in the morning also. So please lets keep the ball rolling.
Pics will follow when Erich post them!

Hi Guys new to the site. I like to hear the chat about taking Vets / Active duty military hunting.
I am a wounded warrior and Infantry Sargent Iraq Veteran, I enjoy getting in the treeline and doing some hunting. Had a great mixed woodcock and waterfowl hunt on Sat. with a fellow veteran Airborne Ranger Irag vet.
Thank you guys for hosting the chances for fellow vets to enjoy the outdoors.

Have a great Thanksgiving and remeber the service men and women still in harms way

Where are you located? Lots of people going out the next few days. Perhaps you could meet up and enjoy some good companionship. If you go out with EDog, you can also enjoy some piss poor shooting! :lol3:

Good idea. Or maybe set him up a few hundred yards away with a 30-06. Seems he can't hit decoying mallards at 15 yards but that running doe at 450 yards is meat in the freezer!

Conservation guy,

PM me, we would be honored to take you and you're buddy out, if you like. We are located in Hingham on the South Shore but will find productive location near you if that helps.

The pleasure and honor shall be ours. We wear Shemahgs, kill and eat all waterfowl, and take no prisoners  .

Other way 'round CG,

I love puddlers and flooded timber!

It's the younger guys and the really old guys like Mike J. like all that salt water stuff.

Contact my boy Eschutz or Mike J. and I'm sure they'd be happy to hook you up. If it's a nice big heated boat I may join you. :lol3:

Saw your post on the military thread and took the link over here. I'm pcs'ing from Missouri to the boston area later this summer and wondered if the offer to go hunting still stood? Will be new to the area in the fall and would love to go hunt. Let me know. Thanks!
