NRA sent me this in the e-mail yesterday- please attend one of the meetings or send a letter/e-mail if you hunt/are interested in hunting the Cape Cod National Seashore, or if you just want to protect our hunting heritage.
PROTECT YOUR RIGHT TO HUNT AT CAPE COD NATIONAL SEASHORE
ANTI-HUNTERS WERE SUCCESSFUL IN TEMPORARILY STOPPING PHEASANT HUNTING. DON'T LET THEM MAKE THE HUNTING BAN PERMANENT.
Two public meetings have been scheduled for later this week to discuss the fate of hunting at Cape Cod National Seashore. A permanent hunt ban is one of three alternatives being addressed by the National Park Service in a draft environmental impact statement recently released for public comment.
The document was developed as a result of a federal court ruling in a September, 2003 lawsuit filed against the Service's pheasant hunt program. Anti-hunters attempted to expand their lawsuit to include all hunting, but failed in that effort.
The Draft Environmental Impact Statement includes three alternatives. Alternative A is "No Action," Alternative B is the Service's preferred alternative that makes adjustments to the existing hunting program, and Alternative C is the hunt ban.
The first public meeting is at 7:00 pm on June 8 at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham, Massachusetts. A second meeting is set for 9:00 am on June 10 at the Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
