Ended up getting today off and was able to chase the geese I have been watching for the last week. Set up for them this morning and they came in. I ended up blowing some easy shots and I don't like the patterning of the black cloud BB but I did connect with 2 geese. First time shooting since last year so my shooting wasn't great but great to get back in the saddle. Nice healthy birds this year also.
congrats on getting out for a hunt, losing some of the cobwebs, and connecting on 2 birds. i havent gotten out...am counting down the days though til ducks.
I took a goose in early season this year. Marinated it for 3 days in a redwine concoction and seared it a perfect med rare (breasts). Man it was the worst thing i have tried in a long time, so gamey, tasted the iron flavor from whatever they were eating, do they all taste like this? I have been told there is nothing you can do to get the gamey taste out of it.
i tend to use geese for either sausage or jerky...theyre great for both. the times i have grilled them up i did notice the gameyness, but i actually like gamey things.
you can try soaking them in salted water, or milk overnight to help draw out some of the extra blood. that will help. also, i never marinate anything for more than a day. any time i have done that it overpowers the meat.
next time try soaking it in milk or salted water for a day...either that or grind it up into sausage or make jerky.
