...two boaters, one stand-up-paddleboarder and two rowers.
Kayaked out the Concord river on the NWR here last night. Had seen 40-45 geese down there the day before
the opener ('course), but not a single edible bird for miles last night ('course). Anyway, gotta get out to have a chance, right?
So, I set up off a point, pull the 'yak back into the cover and fashion a nice little blind out of blowdowns. Along come all of the above over a couple hours. The looks on their faces when they got right up on the decoys was priceless!
One boater actually turned around, came back at them and tried to get them to fly.
I called out a hello from the bank (maybe 25 yds away) and thought he was going to have a heart attack! Nice guy, though. The rowers were a little less happy about someone "Hunting? On THIS river?" Politely (very politely) said it was legal and very safe - I could see them coming from a long way away and wouldn't hunt while they were even in sight. She breathlessly exclaimed that she just didn't "want to get shot." Again, politely assured her of her safety and wished them a good night... Oh well.
Anyway, just thought the boater's reaction was worth posting up. Wish I had a pic of his face!
Oh, and that some birds had a chance to look over the spread...
