Incredible amount of birds!!!

Postby Bulldog87 » Sat Jan 04, 2014 5:07 pm

Got out in the marsh today not expecting to see to much cause of the cold! The amount of ducks and geese was unbelievable! Saw a lot of different species the last few days compared to the usual black ducks and mallards! I got a galdwell hen my buddy a barrows golden eye hen and dropped a few geese! Not looking forward to the end of the season next week! Hope the ice leaves that's for sure! Does not make for easy retrevels! Good luck to all!

I would have gone out had I not been clearing the roads for the public. One of these days I will enjoy a snowstorm. Probably when I retire. :crying:

What tactics were you guys using? Did you have open water for decoys or were you jump shooting? Heading out this week, not sure what approach ill be using. Not much open water here accessible without a boat.

We walked out of a creek at just about dead low the creek was running and there were some birds on the shore about a 100yds ton out left so we sat there for. While they were moving towards us until a hawk scared everything out the gadwall cam about 5 min later then we Acually walked the flat and sat behind some icebergs on the river that's were the the golden eye came from the geese we're pass over after the tide pushed us back on shore

Were you in southeast mass? I tried northeast coastal on 1/1 and only saw a few small flock of blacks. Everything inland was locked up solid. We did have a few bald eagles hanging around. Nice to look at, but they don't help the ducks come in.

Wow. I guess we were a few miles too far north. We were just over the line in NH and it was pretty sparse.
